Structural limits of ingredient labeling and new transparency standards

LEVEL 5 The Truth About Ingredient Labels
KAIAN R&D Team |

Information Not Disclosed Under Current Regulations

The information that current ingredient labeling regulations fail to disclose is extensive: concentration (%), raw material manufacturer and grade, manufacturing method, stability test results, and measured values of active ingredients. The same applies in the EU.

Food products require nutritional labeling, yet cosmetics only disclose the "presence or absence" of ingredients. This represents a significant regulatory gap. "Clean Beauty" is merely a list of excluded ingredients -- not a disclosure of "what is included and in what amount."

The 5-Level Transparency Standard

Level 1 Full ingredient listing (current legal requirement)

Level 2 Disclosure of key active ingredient concentrations

Level 3 Disclosure of all ingredient ratios

Level 4 Disclosure of raw material manufacturers and grades

Level 5 Publication of stability and efficacy test data

Explainable Formulation

What we need is formulation "explainability" (Explainable Formulation). Why was this ingredient chosen? Why this concentration? What test data supports it? Transparency that enables consumers to understand the intent behind a formulation will become the foundation of the next-generation skincare industry. Choose brands that can explain their formulations -- that is the smartest action a consumer can take.
