Serums lined up at the drugstore. Serums recommended at department store counters. Serums trending on social media. With so many options to choose from, what criteria are you using to make your selection?

The Starting Point for Choosing a Serum

When choosing a serum, there is only one thing to consider first: What does your skin need right now?

If it is dry, focus on hydration. If it is losing firmness, target elasticity. If dullness is a concern, aim for radiance. The starting point is to narrow down to a single "purpose."

Build the Habit of Reading the Ingredient List

Once your purpose is clear, the next step is to turn the bottle over and read the ingredient list. The marketing claims on the front are advertising. The ingredient list on the back is the true content of that serum.

That said, most people find ingredient lists incomprehensible -- and that is completely understandable. In the next level, we will show you exactly what to look for.
