Products are often categorized as "for dry skin," "for oily skin," or "for sensitive skin," but this classification is actually quite imprecise.
Skin Type Is Not Fixed
Skin type is not fixed -- you may have dry skin in winter and combination skin in summer. Your cheeks may be dry while your T-zone is oily. Menstrual cycles and stress also cause fluctuations.
Thinking "I have dry skin" as a fixed identity prevents you from adapting to your skin's changes. It is more rational to judge based on "your skin's current state" rather than skin type.
A State-Based Approach
If your skin feels tight 30 minutes after cleansing, barrier repair is the top priority. If makeup fades quickly, sebum control is needed. If redness appears easily, anti-inflammatory ingredients are key. If firmness is lacking, collagen support should be prioritized.
Think not "I have XX skin type" but "my skin is currently in XX state," and when the state changes, change your care accordingly. This is the starting point of personalized skincare.
