The scientific foundation of personalized skincare

LEVEL 5 What "Suits Your Skin" Means
KAIAN R&D Team |

The ultimate form of "suits your skin" is personalization based on individual biological characteristics. Here we explain three axes of individualization.

Axis 1: Genomics (Genetic Predisposition)

FLG gene mutations are associated with barrier function vulnerability, increasing atopic dermatitis risk 2-3 fold. MC1R mutations determine individual differences in UV sensitivity, and MMP1 promoter polymorphisms are involved in genetic differences in aging rate.

Axis 2: Epigenetics

UV exposure alters DNA methylation patterns, silencing collagen genes. Niacinamide (SIRT1 activation) and retinoids are ingredients that act directly on epigenetics.

Axis 3: Microbiome

Each individual's commensal bacterial composition is unique, like a fingerprint. 16S rRNA analysis can profile each person's unique microbiome.

Integrated Personalization

Genomics + Epigenetics + Microbiome + Real-time skin measurement. By integrating these through AI analysis, designing formulations and care protocols optimized for each individual becomes possible.
