Effect

Mechanism
A gemini-type structure with two hydrophobic chains and three hydrophilic groups, in which one lauroyl glutamic acid is bound to each of the two amino groups of lysine (structural formula in the JCIA labelling-name list, X = Na or H). In a cultured human skin model it retained a water-soluble compound in the skin while increasing its penetration flux

Unconfirmed. No published human repeated-use study has been found
Cautions
Because it behaves as a surfactant, irritation potential must be judged by level of use and the whole formulation. A CIR safety assessment has not been confirmed. An Australian AICIS public report (STD1595) was found to exist but its text could not be retrieved. The supplier describes penetration into the stratum corneum and ceramide-like behaviour in its own literature, which is not peer reviewed
